However, Ats fell into the gangster world a bit too deep and was given the huge task of framing Jamie (Micheal Ward), Dushane’s rival for a crime he did not commit.

At the end of the last series, Dushane revealed he had CCTV footage featuring Ats, that could get Jamie out of jail, and fans worried what this could mean for Ats going forward, surely Dushane would not turn a young kid like Ats in to the police?

To answer everybody’s question, Season 2 of the Netflix gangland drama got off to a harrowing start by revealing Season 1 favorite Ats had been brutally killed, but by who and why? Newsweek has everything you need to know.

Who Killed Ats and Why?

Ats was not killed by Dushane to keep him quiet as many may have suspected.

Sadly, in the end, Ats was killed by Dexter, one of Jamie’s men from London Fields, in retaliation for sending Jamie to prison.

At the end of Season 1, Dushane orchestrated a plan to have Jamie arrested by planting drugs and weapons in Jamie’s flat. As Ats was a friend of Jamie’s younger brother Stef (Araloyin Oshunremi), he was called upon to lay the trap. Ats did as he was told and planted a green bag pack full of weapons and class A drugs and, alas, the police were called to arrest Jamie and his brothers (who were innocent), with Jamie ultimately taking the fall.

In a surprising turn of events, Dushane opted to strike a deal with Jamie. If Jamie agreed to work with Dushane on the outside, Dushane would provide him the CCTV evidence of the green bag being planted in his home to get him out of prison, and surprisingly, Jamie agreed. By Season 2, Dushane had secured Jamie’s release from prison.

In Top Boy Season 2, Ats’s mother Amma was spending day and night looking for her son, only to receive the devastating news that Ats’ body had been found in a nearby dumpster.

For weeks, Dushane, Jaq (Jasmine Jobson), and the Summerhouse gang believed Ats’ killer to be a woman who was seen on CCTV, pushing Ats into a yellow car.

Dushane sent Kit (Kadeem Ramsay), Jamie’s trusted ally, and two of the youngsters to follow the yellow car the woman was seen emerging from in the CCTV.

Kit, ignoring Dushane’s orders not to act, stormed the building to find fellow London Fields’ gang member Dexter in the garage. He had been the one driving the yellow car.

As Dushane and the Summerhouse gang closed in on Dexter and Kit, it was revealed Kit had ordered Dexter to “teach Ats a lesson” for landing Jamie in prison but Dexter had accidentally killed him. In a moment of complete madness and/or panic, Kit bludgeoned Dexter to death.

Dushane, who is always one step ahead, was immediately suspicious of Kit’s decision to kill Dexter, believing he may have had something to hide, and as expected, he was right.

To test Jamie’s loyalty to him and Summerhouse, Dushane ordered Jamie to kill Kit for ordering Ats’ death or, to take his own life.

Jamie visited Kit who told him the truth about what happened, stating he simply wanted to send Ats a warning for what he did to Jamie. They agreed they would flee London for Cardiff, Wales, but after Jamie’s brothers refused to leave London and made quite clear their resentment towards him if he was to leave them again, Jamie ultimately chose to protect his family.

In the end, Jamie sided with Dushane and made the terrible decision to kill his best friend, Kit.

The sad irony of Kit’s death is that just moments later, Jamie was shot dead by Sully in front of the family he was trying to protect. If only they had just taken the opportunity to get out for good by going to Wales or even better, never gotten involved in the gangster lifestyle in the first place.

Top Boy is streaming on Netflix now.
