Although it was never officially confirmed, many gamers had been under the impression that the mech shooter would be released through Xbox 360’s Games on Demand service. Now that the port has finally arrived in stores, publisher Electronic Arts has released a statement explaining why Xbox 360 owners need to purchase the game on-disc.

Considering that the game was never officially confirmed as an Xbox 360 Games on Demand release, this shouldn’t come as too big of a disappointment to shoppers. Although the publisher may lose a few sales by limiting availability to disc copies only, there is enough hype surrounding the game that we doubt consumers will have a problem adding one more hard-copy to their collections. Despite the minor inconvenience to gamers who prefer to keep everything digital, it is good to see that the developers and publisher weren’t willing to compromise the quality of the game just to reach another potential market.

In other Titanfall news, after recent updates added some new features and improvements to the Xbox One and PC versions of the game, Respawn has used PAX East as an opportunity to drop some more details on the game’s upcoming DLC maps and features. Whether or not the Expedition DLC will arrive for the Xbox 360 at the same time as it does for Xbox One and PC has yet to be confirmed.

Is Titanfall’s absence from the Games on Demand store a deal-breaker for you or are you just as happy picking up an on-disc copy of the shooter? Let us know in the comments.

Titanfall is currently available for PC, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
