Earlier this week, however, Respawn Community Manager Abbie Heppe (also the voice of Sarah in Titanfall) teased what players might expect from potential DLC. And, for a nice bit of symmetry, she also confirmed what players won’t see.
These latest DLC details come courtesy of an interview between Heppe and IGN. In the interview, Heppe is questioned about the various various alien creatures that occupy the periphery of Titanfall’s universe and whether they might factor into a future map pack. While a few of Titanfall’s maps boast some intriguing flora and fauna, the Titanfall art book suggests there were plans for a lot more creatures, but many ended up on the cutting room floor.
However, as Heppe teases, we might see a few more alien creatures in a future Titanfall DLC release, perhaps even as a key part of a map.
In addition to potential map layouts and design elements, one of the bigger questions surrounding future Titanfall DLC revolves around the game’s eponymous Titans. Although the game boasts three varied Titan types — the Atlas, the Ogre, and the Stryder — many had hoped to see more options in the retail product. Could they get their wish with future DLC? Unfortunately, according to Heppe, that seems unlikely.
There’s no question that balancing a game that accommodates traditional FPS combat and hulking mechs must have been a heady task, but there was some hope that Titanfall might include a wide selection of Titans, if not in the finished game than through DLC. And although that isn’t completely ruled out for this first game, we would be surprised if Titanfall 2 didn’t have a larger selection.
As far as Titanfall 1 is concerned, gamers have at least three DLC pack releases to look forward to as well as some free updates (private matches) from Respawn that should both bolster the map and (admittedly sparse) mode selection. We’ll keep you posted when Respawn reveals more.
